I had a conversation the other day with a good friend who is going through some complicated stuff. She asked me the question, “Does God Care Anymore?” Life is filled with questions of why, but many times, it seems our questions go unanswered. Does it mean that God doesn’t care about you? No! The enemy will use circumstances and people to lead you to believe God doesn’t care anything about you, but that is not the truth. God has cared about you since the day He created you! This world has never cared about you, but God has never quit caring about you! Let me ask you this question, “Do you think God cares for you?”
Facing the Facts!
Let’s face the facts. The world we live in is very different than it was even ten years ago. Kindness, compassion, and empathy have always been in short supply, and now there is even less. The enemy is continually trying to fill our minds with untruths and deceive us about God. Fear has taken over lives with the help of social networking, television, and other media sources. Media has led us to think we are no longer entitled to our own beliefs, and if we do something which may not be politically correct, there will be dire consequences to pay. As believers, we need to be different than the world and demonstrate love, kindness, empathy, and compassion, no matter the cost.
An Unexpected Conversation
Jesus didn't care about being politically correct; He cared about being spiritually correct. Share on XJesus didn’t care about being politically correct; He cared about being spiritually correct. He only cared about what His Father thought of His actions. Shouldn’t we be the same? Remember the story of the Samaritan woman at the well, who Jesus asked for a drink? Asking her for a drink was not being politically correct since Jews and Samaritans didn’t associate with one another. But because Jesus asked her for a drink, they had an honest conversation, and many Samaritans came to know Jesus as their Messiah. Jesus knew the Samaritan woman’s life was a mess, but it didn’t stop him from caring for her and sharing the Good News using her story for God’s glory.
Freewill Makes for Messy People
We are all messy people in one way or another, often because we have this thing called free will. Sometimes we create our problems, and other times problems are created for us by others or by circumstances beyond our control. However, it doesn’t mean God doesn’t care. It means we have work to do and lessons to learn. God can feel distant from us, but it isn’t that He has pulled away from us; instead, we have pulled away from Him.
I don’t know what you are going through, but Jesus does. He wants you to trust Him with all of your cares and concerns. Our problems are God’s problems. God has never quit caring about His kids.
1 Peter 5:7 (NLT) Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.
Perception versus Reality
We may think God doesn’t care because our perception of life has changed due to social media. It is easy to fall into the trap of looking at the Instagram version of other people’s lives and thinking their life is perfect, and they have it all together. We lead ourselves to believe that somehow, God must love and care more about them than He loves us, but we have to remember we only see what is pictured. We don’t know what is going on behind the screen or how many tries it took to get the perfect picture. Don’t let others determine how you think God feels and cares about you.
Be Authentic
What we need to do is come out from behind the screen and build a real authentic community in the same way Jesus did, by having honest conversations with people one on one. Don’t get me wrong, social media isn’t all bad, but as the saying goes, “People won’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.
So, how do we show people that yes, God does care? We take time with people just like Jesus did. We invest in people as Jesus invested in us. Sometimes, it will mean sacrifice and not being politically correct. People may talk about you and question what you are doing, but don’t be afraid if God is leading you. God will never call you to do something without equipping you for the task. Following God will bring a great reward because God loves it when we are obedient to Him rather than compromising our souls to the world. God showed you how much He cared when He sent His Son, Jesus, to die in your place. God demonstrated your worth to Him through His own beloved Son. It was priceless!
Truth Matters
There is a world full of people who need to know the truth about how much God cares and loves them. The believer and non-believer alike need to be reminded of how much God cares because the world is constantly fighting against us both. Being a believer doesn’t mean we are exempt from the hurts of this world, that can delude our hearts into thinking God doesn’t care. This is why it is vital to stay in community with one another.
In Proverbs 27:17, the scripture states: As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”
God Loves Everyone
The unbeliever may not look or act like you and me, but it doesn’t mean that God doesn’t care or love them. How do we show them? With the same kindness, compassion, and empathy, God demonstrates to us. Never once have I read that kindness, compassion, empathy, and love are overrated. Before we came to the saving grace of God’s mercy, we were unbelievers too. The only difference between unbelievers and us is we responded when somebody took the time to show us love, kindness, compassion, and empathy.
In Matthew 10:29, we read:
What is the price of two sparrows—one copper coin? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it.
The sparrow is a very common bird, but not one of them falls to the ground without Our Father knowing it. If our God cares about the sparrow, who seems to have little value from a worldly perspective, then think about how much God cares about you and me.
Yes, my friend, God does care – more than we can ever comprehend.

Oh my, your friends question really cut to my heart. I love how you share the truth about how God cares for you and loves us all. Having faith is so hard, but I wouldn’t face life without it. ❤
Sheila says
Hi, Laura!
I couldn’t face life without it either. My heart grieves for those who think they can live life without faith in God because He makes our lives worth living. It doesn’t mean we don’t have struggles and questions, but with God, we know we are loved and cared for in amazing ways. Thanks, Laura for your heart and always encouraging my soul!

Enjoyed this post Sheila. When times are hard or challenging it is easy for us to question God’s goodness and if he really cares about us… but the truth is, over and over we are reminded that he cares for us. If no where else, John 3:16 says it clearly enough!
Thank you for sharing! 🙂
Sheila says
Hi, Heather!
Thank You for your words of encouragement! We are all vulnerable in our own ways and the enemy knows this from our past struggles, but he doesn’t know our present or our future. I am thankful for God’s love, care and provision on a daily basis!

Such a good reminder that God truly cares for us at all times. My perception is often skewed like you said that the more blessings someone has the more God cares but that is not necessarily true. God has never quit caring and that is so comforting!
Sheila says
Hi, Haley!
The enemy can do a job on us and mess us up if we allow him too with a wrong perception about our Heavenly Father. God really is our comfort in every situation.

Hi, Marina!
I believe unconditional love is the most precious gift Jesus gave us to give to one another. Love is the gift that keeps on giving. 🙂

Yes! Remember real truth and standing on God’s Word despite your circumstances is not always easy, but so important. Jesus loved and cared so much that He gave His life for us.
Sheila says
Hi, Ayanna!
It is hard to think that someone could care that much about us, but He truly does despite everything we do! Thanks for sharing!

i have a hard time with religion but respect people in my life who are religious!
Sheila says
Hi, Linda!
I appreciate your honesty because I have a hard time with religion too. I don’t have a religion I have a relationship with my faith which to me makes all the difference in the world. I do respect those who are religious because we are all at different places and when you seek God you find Him.

I love this. There have been times I have wonder but in every situation when it felt like things were crashing God led us out and helped us find a way!
Sheila says
Hi, Jennifer!
I’ve been there too! I’m very thankful that God leads us out of the craziness of life and into His peace and understanding.

There are some great quotes in this article! Growing up Greek Orthodox I was very blessed with an awesome support team and a great community. If their love doesn’t remind me that God cares I don’t know what will!
Sheila says
Hi, Brittany!
I love that you have a awesome support team. The church is the best place to build a community that cares!

Hi, Gena!
Thank You for your encouragement and I’m glad you found my post interesting.

All good points to remember. Media has definitely had negative consequences on our perception of facts.
Sheila says
Hi, Sarah!
It is sad how much influence media has in our lives these days rather than seeking the truth for ourselves thus believing the lies of so many.

I was just watching a sermon by Pastor Steven Furtick called My Master Is My Mirror and this definitely reminded me of things he preached! I love when I get a message through entirely different sources that line up with what God is wanting me to understand!
Sheila says
Hi, Kayvona!
I love Pastor Steven Furtick too! I will have to watch that sermon. I love it when God speaks in stereo to me too!
