This past weekend I traveled from my Maryland home to Washington D.C. to be a part of Together 2016 on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The Metro was filled with excitement as we met up with others who were attending and the consensus was always the same, “We need Jesus more than ever”.
After all the recent events in our nation involving sorrow, heartache and division, Together 2016 provided an opportunity to join with others from all across the nation to pray for healing and hope, and to reset and align our hearts with God’s heart. It was touted to be a revival for the millennial generation, but I am here to tell you there were people of all ages, not to mention ages and ethnicities, who joined together to pray and worship God . There was no political agenda and the organizers of the event didn’t even ask for money. It was a day where believers were encouraged in mind, body and soul. It was a beautiful thing to meet sisters and brothers from all over the United States who were there to stand for Jesus.
Christ Followers are Not Alone
The liberal media would have us believe that as Christ followers, there aren’t many of us left. The liberal media tells the world, we as believers in Jesus Christ, are the radicals trying to infect society with the disease of our beliefs. They thrive on the taste of hatred, division, sorrow and pain and are like a shark who sniffs the smell of blood and feeds on the frenzy at another’s expense. They want us to believe hope is gone, Jesus isn’t real and God is dead. Don’t drink their Kool-Aid!
On Saturday, I was a part of something that was supernatural in every sense of the word. As hundreds of thousands converged on the National Mall you could feel the presence of God igniting a fire within hearts as we prayed, listened and worshipped together begging God to do a spiritual reset within His followers. This wasn’t apostasy or heresy. It was recognizing our need for God to change the direction in which we are headed. It wasn’t about religion, but relationship with Jesus.
As I looked out on the sea of those who were called there by God, I wept with joy knowing this was the beginning of something bigger than my mind could begin to fathom. This was the call of God to reset thousands of hearts to take the lead and demonstrate the love of Jesus to the millions around them who are in desperate need of hope.
The Power of Prayer and Hearing Truth
The messages were challenging and personally uncomfortable at times because I could see my own lack of obedience and laziness related to what God desires of me. We live in a world where people die physically every day, but what about those who are spiritually dying or dead while being physically alive? I found myself asking this question, “Am I passionate about reaching out those who are spiritually dying or dead?” It is easy to become calloused towards the world when you are constantly inundated with untruth. You can’t expect difference if you are not willing to be different. Louie Giglio, founder of the Passion Movement gave a message in which he stated, “The most important journey everyone must take is the 20-inch journey from your knee to the ground, and that is where the mercy of God is found.”
Prayer has always been the start of every great revival. Prayer was the key component to Together 2016. We prayed individually, in small groups and corporately. We prayed for our leaders, nation and for our future generations and the leaders of those generations. We prayed against the evils of the world and for those who have had injustice shown towards them.
Although the event was shut down early due to the high number of heat-related medical emergencies, God had already accomplished what He had set out to do. God spoke to hearts in profound ways. Anyone who attended will never be the same again, because God is on the move through His people. What people had said was impossible, was already done. People showed up for Jesus in person and online.
At the end of the event Nick Hall, founder of PULSE and organizer of Together 2016 said it best, “This event has never been about coming to the Mall. It’s about sending a generation out from the Mall to share Jesus.”
No wonder the enemy is pulling out all the stops to distract us, over 1 million people were given the challenge to share Jesus. You know what that means for the enemy? TROUBLE! In Christ, there is great freedom and His light will triumph over the power of darkness every time Share on X
We all have a responsibility to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with a world that is dying and in desperate need. What are you doing to share Jesus? I want to encourage you to pray, re-set and go! There are people who need to hear the gospel and it is up to you to tell them.
Father God,
I pray that we as your sons and daughters would stand strong together and unite our hearts to bring revival to our neighbors, communities and our nation. Father, I pray with great urgency you would restore and renew hearts to relationship with you. Do not allow the enemy to isolate, divide and lure people into false beliefs about themselves or others. I pray you would remove the scales from our eyes and let us see the world as you see it and love people as you love them. I pray we stand upon your truth and use godly wisdom in our daily decisions. I pray,we as the body of Christ, would do our part in bringing your kingdom and your will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. Amen!
