Do you remember when you received your very first love letter? What a feeling, as your heart pounded in your chest and your stomach was filled with butterflies while you read the words at the end of the note, “I Love You!” Who doesn’t get excited at the thought of receiving a hand written love note from someone special? When a person takes the time to sit down and express their intimate thoughts and feelings on paper, it becomes a very powerful thing. If you and I are on the receiving end of the note, it can genuinely change our whole relationship. When we have something tangible to hold on to, it is a compelling reminder of the love that is written on our hearts, and it isn’t something easily forgotten.
My friend Cathy makes beautiful little cards, all of which contain scriptures, encouraging quotes or words of affirmation, and hands them out to people all over the United States. She calls them “Love Notes from God.” It is a beautiful thing. In fact, these little notes are now traveling all over the world encouraging people with the love of Christ. Cathy has made batches of these cards for me on various occasions to hand out to groups of women, and I have seen their entire countenance change when they receive and read these beautiful cards which remind them of who they are in Christ. I’ve received “Love Notes” from Cathy myself, and every time I do my heart is lifted by the reminder of how desperately in love God is with me.
Another “Love Note” I treasure is a letter that was hand written to me by God. It is called the Bible, God’s holy word. Nothing is more intimate than hearing directly from my Creator, the One who loved me since before I took my first breath. When I read about His vast love for me, I melt because of His tenderness towards me. His love has no limits! He loves me not for what I can do for Him, but simply because I am His child created in His image. When I think of what He has done to express His love for me, I am moved to tears. When you know you are loved with such intensity that a whole book is dedicated to you, you can’t help but want to read it, and every word becomes precious.
In God’s “Love Note” he warns me of the consequences of sin, and its final result, which is death. When I am rebellious, He loves me enough to chastise me and convict my heart to teach me the difference between right and wrong. He doesn’t just love me in the good times, but also in the bad times. He is honest and vulnerable about what breaks His heart, yet He takes me back when I’ve been unfaithful and holds no grudge against me. If my heart has turned cold and I have wandered away from Him, He reminds me He would leave the ninety-nine and come searching for me. Wow! It is truly the most authentic love letter I will ever receive from anyone. His love is flawless.
Doesn’t this excite you? God’s love is so perfect, profound and proficient in every aspect. I’ve been in unhealthy relationships in the past which have cost me dearly, but nothing has ever compared to what it has cost God to love me. How is it that God can love me beyond all my imperfections and inabilities and I can’t begin to scratch the surface of such a magnificent love?
His “Love Note” is personal. What it means to me may have a completely different meaning than what it means to you, but the message is the same for both of us. I Love You! In a world that bases everything on feelings, God bases His love on His promises and truth. His love has not changed for you or me in over 2000 years. As humans, we try to express love in our limited ways, but we are not capable of perfectly loving anyone without knowing the perfect love of Christ.
1 John 4:17-18: And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect. So we will not be afraid on the day of judgment, but we can face him with confidence because we live like Jesus here in this world. Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love.
We don’t have to be afraid to love God because He will never leave us or let us down. The more we fall in love with Him, the more confident and perfect our love becomes in Him.
If you were to write God a “Love Note,” what would it say? In the same way we love to hear how much we are loved, God loves to hear it too. I want to encourage you to take some time and write your own “Love Note” to God.
You want to read a “Love Note” hand written specifically to you? Open your Bible and see this intimate love letter written for your soul. A love so beautiful that it encompasses every fiber of your being. A ‘Love Note” which still holds the same powerful message from the beginning of time until forever with God our Creator saying, “I Love You!”

This is so wonderful! It’s so true, the scriptures are like a love note from our Heavenly Father. He loves us enough to give us commandments, and then love us unconditionally even when we stray.
Sheila Rhodes says
Hi Justine~
It is good to know we can find a love note anywhere from God in the good or bad times. Thanks for your comment!
Mardene Carr says
Wonderful analogy….God has been writing love notes to his people for years. If only we would receive them the same way we receive the ones we get from earthly persons
Sheila Rhodes says
Hi Mardene! You are right about receiving them and putting more priority on them than we do the world’s. His Love Note is timeless! Thanks for sharing your thoughts 🙂

Hi Molly! I need to be reminded daily because the world tries to fill my heart with such stupid stuff rather than the amazing gift of God’s love.

So true!! There is nothing greater than God’s love and we should always read God’s love note to us.

Love this message. When I read the title, I was thinking about how I can’t wait until my 3yo and 1yo start writing me letters and “I Love You” notes. After reading your post, this message was even better!

Carrie~ Those love notes will be precious from your little ones too. They will learn to write them because a momma will share the ultimate Love Note with them. Blessings to you!

Words are powerful. They can wound or heal. The love of God, in the ultimate book, the Bible, show just how much He not only loves us, but the truth of what He desires of us as His message spreaders.
Great article Sheila!

Toni~ You are right about how powerful our words are…and nothing is more powerful than the language of love. Thank You for always encouraging me and sharing the message of love!

I am having a hard time putting into words my feelings after having read your post. It is one of the most amazing things I have read and such a reminder to me of how much God loves me. Thank you my friend!
Sheila Rhodes says
Cindy,
My prayer is God always leads me to encourage and challenge hearts to think about what God has done or is doing in our lives everyday. I’m guilty of not recognizing the impact of God’s love for me as often as I should. I am so blessed by His love, mercy and grace…He loves both of us perfectly!
