We all have those chores we love to hate. One of mine is vacuuming. I love a clean floor, but I dislike having to drag the cleaner out of the closet and take it to the appropriate room to get my cleaning done. What really annoys me is when I go to use the vacuum cleaner and it doesn’t work! The last time this happened, I sat down on the chair to get a better look at the cleaner and spent at least half a lifetime (or so it seemed) checking out the various parts, checking the hoses and changing the bag which wasn’t even full. I did all these things and turned on the switch to the vacuum cleaner and still…. NOTHING! By this point I was getting a little frustrated because all I wanted to do was vacuum the floor and get on with the rest of my life (Ok, maybe I’m being a little dramatic!) I walked out to the kitchen to get a drink because I had worked up a thirst trying to fix the stupid vacuum cleaner, and then I saw the cord. The cord wasn’t in the outlet, but just lying on the floor like it was taking a nap. I reached down and grabbed the cord like I was choking it and yelled “The vacuum cleaner is unplugged!” Wow! For a minute I was feeling so stupid, then the next minute I was so angry because I didn’t check the cord first, and then finally I just wanted to kick something or someone like….myself!
The next thing I knew I heard Jesus whispering in my ear, “This is how I feel you have been with me lately…Unplugged!” The first thing I wanted to do was defend myself and say, “What do you mean?” but I couldn’t because I knew exactly what He meant. I had been unplugged. My mind had been in a million different places, but not where it needed to be. In order to hear from Him there has to be a constant current flowing from His heart to mine. When I am plugged into Jesus I function properly because I have the power of the Holy Spirit within me to discern, guide, teach and direct me to where He wants my heart to be.
Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father.”
John 14:12 – NLT
There is power in the name of Jesus, and He wants us to possess all the fullness of His power. Wow! Did you read what I read? When we are plugged into Jesus we have the ability to do the same works as Jesus and even greater works! Do you believe that? What does this mean? Why do we find this statement too good to be true? Maybe it is because we focus on the power we believe we don’t have rather than the power we do have. Could it be we are not completely plugged in? Are you afraid of what God might ask you to do? Do you believe this scripture isn’t for today? Do you lack faith and struggle in your belief? What greater work is Jesus calling you to do? Don’t you want to find out? I know I do! This scripture is just as relevant today as when Jesus was walking the earth. His promises do not change! This means effort on our part. It means staying in tune with the Holy Spirit by directing our energy towards the Father. If we want the world to see Jesus, we need to have His light burning brightly within us. We can’t allow distractions to dim the light of Christ within our hearts, because then the enemy wins.
In order to hear from Jesus, we need to be plugged into Him. If we are not plugged into Jesus we can’t expect to live in His power. When we live in the power of Christ we can expect great things to happen in our lives and the lives of those around us.
