She looked tired and worn. Her baby on her hip with one sock on and one sock off. The baby was crying and her mother was doing everything to console her. She kept saying, “We are going home, we are going home, I know you are tired”. I asked her if she had a long day and she replied, “Yes, we certainly did.” I could see the tears well up in her eyes and I asked her if she was okay. She shared she had recently lost her mother to breast cancer. Her words stung my heart because someone very close to me is battling breast cancer. I told her I was very sorry for her loss and asked her if there was anything I could do for her. She turned to me with tears streaming down her face and asked, “Could I just have a hug?” I smiled and told her I would gladly give her a hug. When I hugged her, I told her she was a good mom and she was doing a great job. She clung tighter and said, “Thank You” and said, “Those are the same exact words my mom would say to me.” We shared a few more words and I walked with her to her car. God gave me an opportunity to pray with her and I could just see the relief that filled her soul. She thanked me again and I gave her my phone number and told her to call if she needed to talk.
Cancer is a horrible disease that is no respecter of race, color, creed or age. Many times it strikes without warning. It is a fierce battle that is won and loss. It devastates many lives and leaves so many with a gaping hole in their heart, including mine. As a Christ-follower, I have the comfort of knowing I will see my loved one again, but it is the painful separation until we meet again in heaven.
Sometimes being Jesus Glitter is asking one simple question.
Are you ok? Three little words which can make all the difference. It is often said we never know what is tugging at someone else’s heartstrings, but given the opportunity we can ask.
So I want to ask you….Are you ok? I truly want to know. Please feel free to leave a comment or e-mail me so I can pray for you.
Be the Sparkle….
